About My Sp ED:  This blog is my chance to recharge my love for education.  I am hopeful to make changes in special education.  I love my students.  I love working with other educators.

I am a teacher for students with special needs.  I have been in education for more than 10 years.  I started as a substitute teacher.  As a substitute, I had the opportunity to work in the classroom with students with special needs.  I fell in love the students and the chance to make a difference in education.  My first official job as teacher of record was in a classroom with students from Kindergarten to 5th grade, with a variety of disabilities from Autism, Down syndrome, and multiple disabilities.  After a few years, the class was split into two classes, one for kindergarten to 2nd grade and the other for 3rd grade to 5th grade.  I moved into the 3rd to 5th grade.  Because of my move when the classroom split, I was able to stay with some students from the time they were in kindergarten until they left elementary school in 5th grade.

Now I am a teacher in intermediate school, 6th to 8th grade.  I love this age group of students with special needs.  This age group has opened up a whole new assortment of challenges and victories for me.

I want to this to be an honest look at special education, at least from this one educator’s perspective.
